Property Management Essentials

The REIQ Property Management Essentials Program is a comprehensive program designed by practising property managers and delivered by industry specialists. It is tailored for individuals who have completed their certificate of Registration or Full Licence and are seeking to refresh, upskill, or kickstart their career in property management. With a focus on practical application, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and confidence needed to excel in their role from day one.

Participants can expect a dynamic learning experience that blends hands-on training with accessible online resources. The program kicks off with a two-day immersive workshop, where attendees delve into essential property management tasks and agency processes. Led by experts in the field, these sessions provide invaluable insights into the day-to-day responsibilities of property managers, ensuring a thorough understanding of the role.

In addition to the workshop sessions, participants receive six-month access to a specialised online program. This platform offers continuous support and development opportunities, allowing participants to study resources, access materials, and engage with interactive modules at their own pace. Whether refreshing existing knowledge or starting afresh, the REIQ Property Management Essentials Program equips individuals with the tools they need to hit the ground running and succeed in the competitive world of property management.

The Property Management Essentials Program will be led by two seasoned professionals from the REIQ's Property Management Support Service (PMSS) team: Connie McKee and Selinda Randall. As senior trainers and assessors, they bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the program, ensuring that students gain a comprehensive understanding of the ‘why’ behind best practices in property management. With their guidance, participants will delve into the rationale behind implementing legislation and learn how to navigate the complex dynamics of the lessor and tenant relationship.

Connie and Selinda's extensive background as experienced property managers allows them to provide valuable insights into expectation management when dealing with both lessors and tenants. By understanding the underlying reasons behind best practice systems and procedures, students gain a deeper appreciation for the intricacies of property management. Moreover, the program emphasises the importance of emotional intelligence in this demanding profession, empowering participants to effectively manage both their own emotions and those of others involved in the process.

Connie McKee

Connie McKee’s real estate career spans four decades as a practitioner and over two decades as a qualified real estate trainer and assessor. Connie feels real estate touches everyone’s life and it is a privilege to be able to help clients and customers navigate through the sales and rental experience. She’s been a director of three highly successful real estate businesses specialising in all aspects of residential property management and sales. She currently has her own property business focusing on selling, buying and residential property management advice. She is a founding member of the REIQ Property Management Support Service, a highly regarded property management speaker and trainer and an REIQ Life Member.

Selinda Randall

With a career in real estate spanning more than 25 years, Selinda is a practising property manager, the principal licensee of a property investment company, and a senior REIQ trainer and advisor for the REIQ’s Property Management Support Service (PMSS). Selinda says the highlight of her career is definitely joining the REIQ team on the PMSS line. She loves speaking with different property managers and offering assistance – reminding them what a great job they are doing.

Students must hold a Real Estate Registration or Full Licence to enrol into this program.

On completion of this program, participants will be able to:

• Ensuring legal compliance and maximising rent roll value with the PO Form 6
• Essential strategies for building the rent roll, including business development manager (BDM) essentials
• Effective leasing, marketing, and tenant onboarding strategies
• Understanding and navigating the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation (RTRA) Act, along with best practices for completing relevant forms such as Form 18a, Form 11, and Form 12
• Efficient inspections and maintenance management
• Lawful procedures for ending a tenancy
• Integrating excellence in customer service and risk management to generate 5-star Google reviews
• Dispute resolution essentials and navigating Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) procedures.

• At the successful completion of this program students will be issued with a Certificate of Completion
